crack band, Mark Hudson (aka Hudson Brothers, also producer/write-aerosmith among others), Candy Dulfer and Andy Fusco on sax.
I saw a few tapings back when the show existed just to see Vinnie, would go see Mike Baird too when he was doing Thicke Of the Night and hang with him as well. That was a kewl band too, Rick Schlosser would sometimes fill for Baird.

I thought that was JJohnson there, & also noticed Abe filling in [i thought, either he or AJackson], but wasn't sure...Waldman I did not notice! 2 Cool.

Not to turn left, but per what RW said: I always thought Mike was a good & solid player & all, but there was just something sorely lacking in what he brought to the table in Journey after Smith left.

"Dixie Highway" live? Forget about it. "Jonesing for Smith," was more like it.

Sounded like a "studio guy" filling in for the gig, if you get my meaning. I know he's a great & much-recorded studio cat, though; but that "magic" just wasn't there.

What cinched it for me was when he failed to play Larrie Londin's stand-out, simple-yet-effective, 32nd-note HH "flourishes" during Perry's "Oh Sherrie" live [img]graemlins/hmmm.gif[/img] ...kind of like Pocket used to say when he talked about guys who cover Bonzo's grooves leaving out important BD notes... [img]eek.gif[/img] [img]rolleyes.gif[/img] Sacrilege... [img]wink.gif[/img]

Just a side-note thought.

Baird with Journey did nothing for me, he's a great guy and a fine player but was a fish out of water for that gig. They should have let Larrie do the gig.
Baird with Springfield live was great.

I wonder what the reason was. Either LL's extensive studio bookings [hard to leave that], &/or his health / weight...

But I realize MB's great on all his studio work.

Is that Mike on those latest Rick S gigs?! [It kind of looked like him on those late-night talk show appearances of late.]

Not sure, have not seen anything lately, but if the guy behind the kit was of big build with a beard and a, hmm, bad hair day then that was him.

i remember chad wackerman filling in for vinnie as well. he did an outstanding job. i remember getting that same exact kit. which i believe 8" and 10" rack toms and 14" hanging tom. seeing weckl also with that setup finally got me to dive in and do it!

btw - i noticed the bass player who looks like mr. noodle. any idea who that was?


randy, i remember watching fritz coleman's late night show also. i just remember that drummer sitting really high and had a rosewood gretsch kit. he was a fantastic player as well. do you know who it was?
